Every day after school:

Me: “Shoes off and wash your hands.”

Kids: 🏃🏾‍♀️💨🏃🏾‍♂️💨🌀

Me: “Shoes off and wash your hands.”

Kids: acting like they’ve never heard those words before in their lives

Me: “Shoes off and wash your hands.”

Kids: “Mommy, watch this!” “Mommy, look at this!” “Mommy, guess what happened today?”

Me:

“I SAID SHOES OFF AND WASH HANDS NOW!”

😩😂

Thank God it’s summer now because the after-school chaos has officially ended…

…and been replaced by a whole new set of problems.

Now it’s:

“How are you hungry again?”

And my personal favorite:

“Why is everyone suddenly in the same room as me?” 😭

But whether it’s after-school season or summer break season, one thing stays the same:

I still lose my patience sometimes.

And when I do, I repair.

I apologize.

I explain what happened.

Because I want my kids to know that being a grown-up doesn’t mean never making mistakes.

It means taking responsibility when you do.

My mistakes don’t define me as a parent.

My willingness to repair does.

Anybody else’s kids replace one kind of chaos with another the minute summer starts?

When High-Functioning Anxiety Looks Like Having It Together

High-functioning anxiety doesn't look like falling apart — it looks like over-preparation. A first-gen Black mom on the anxiety nobody sees, and the panic attack I thought was a heart attack....

When High-Functioning Anxiety Looks Like Having It Together High-functioning anxiety looks like being prepared, not panicking. A Black mom's honest take on the anxiety nobody sees — and my ER panic attack.

Nobody prepares you for the gap between how you were raised and how you’re trying to raise your kids.

You’re not confused because you’re doing it wrong. You’re navigating two worlds at once — and doing it without a roadmap.

That’s exactly why I wrote Stop–Start–Continue.

Connecting people and curating a vibe is genuinely one of my love languages. 🫶🏾

The book signing on Saturday was everything. Good energy, real conversations, and a room full of people who get it. That’s not something I take for granted.

Thank you to everyone who came out and spent time with me. You didn’t have to show up — and you did. That means everything.

This is what it’s all for. 🩷
