Four dogs. One deadline. A whole lot of hope still left if we move fast.

Cheesehead, Midnight, Koa, and Pesto are on tonight’s 7 PM euthanasia list at San Marcos Animal Shelter. Nico already made it out today, which is the win we’re holding onto right now.

That still leaves four lives waiting for someone to say “I’ve got you.”

If you’ve been thinking about adopting or fostering, this is one of those moments where it truly matters. And if you need a little help getting started, we’re here for that too. Training support, guidance, even basic needs if it helps make a safe placement possible. Just reach out. It doesn’t hurt to ask.

We’ve had to make hard calls lately and close intakes, but that doesn’t mean we stop showing up. It just means we show up differently… for community, for connection, for the dogs still out of time.

Cheesehead. Midnight. Koa. Pesto.
Let’s not let tonight be the end of their story.

Today is heartbreaking 💔 Today at 7pm, these remaining 5 dogs will be euthanized! No exceptions and no extensions! They need a hero NOW!

The SAN MARCOS REGIONAL ANIMAL SHELTER has once again been forced to place dogs on a euthanasia deadline because there are simply more dogs coming in than leaving. This isn’t because shelters want to euthanize dogs. It’s because our community continues to produce more homeless dogs than there are homes willing or able to take them.

These dogs didn’t fail us.
We failed them.

Some were never spayed or neutered. Some were abandoned. Some were surrendered when life became difficult. Others simply weren’t given the commitment they deserved. By the time they reach a shelter, the outcome is often determined by decisions that were made long before they ever walked through those doors.

This crisis won’t be solved by pointing fingers at shelters. It will be solved when we take responsible pet ownership seriously. Spay and neuter. Plan for your pets financially. Work through behavioral challenges before giving up. Support rescues and shelters before they’re forced into impossible situations.

If you’re able to foster, adopt, donate, volunteer, or simply share a dog’s story today, you could be the reason a life is saved. Advocacy matters. Every share has the potential to reach the one person who can make all the difference.

The shelter can’t solve this crisis alone.
Rescues can’t solve it alone.
It takes an entire community.

Please don’t scroll past these dogs today. They are counting on us.

WARNING: Bonnie may cause excessive smiling. 💕

Just look at that face. That grin. Those little ears. And somehow she’s still waiting for someone to call her their own.

Bonnie is the perfect size for anyone looking for a smaller dog. She loves playing with other dogs, adores kids, and when she’s finished zooming around, she’s happiest snuggled up next to her people. She’s equal parts playful and cuddle bug.

She’s the kind of dog that makes ordinary days better and turns a house into a home. All she needs now is someone willing to give her a chance.

If you’ve been looking for a sweet, goofy, adorable best friend, Bonnie is waiting to meet you.

We will need an application to schedule a meet and greet which can be found on our website below:
