Behind the Photos: let’s talk about the backstory behind my award-winning photo “Shoe Shine”. I made this photo October 2024 in Mexico City, while using a 1976 manual film camera.

In the back of my ride, I noticed this gentleman getting his shoes shine and man; it just looked like the perfect shot. He was looking down as I framed the shot, and because the car was turning, I had a split second to make sure my settings were on point. Once verifying, I snapped the shutter but RIGHT as I snapped, he looked up. He gave me the perfect gaze, right in the center of the lens. It was meant to be.
