To reduce product wastage and stockouts at "last mile" facilities, JSI’s Strengthening Service Delivery project and inSupply Health partnered with Ministry of Health,Ethiopia to launch Pharmacy Performance Monitoring Teams in March 2025. In these pilot sites, multidisciplinary teams used data visualization to isolate supply gaps and coordinate 27 commodity transfers with neighboring clinics, nearly eliminating understocking at Biyo Health Center. Across the pilot, commodity reporting rates surged from 21% to 82%, and inventory accuracy reached 95%, demonstrating how a routine data-use culture directly secures medicine availability for patients.

Transforming Last-Mile Health Care through Data Use - JSI Research & Training Institute, Inc. A health system is only as strong as its ability to deliver life-saving commodities to the point of care.

While school-based strategies are highly effective for routine immunization, they face limitations in reaching out-of-school youth, especially those who live in remote or rugged terrain. This challenge became a practical barrier to full coverage, during a recent national HPV vaccine campaign in Ethiopia's mountainous regions.

To address this, JSI and Girl Effect, working with the Ministry of Health,Ethiopia, adjusted the strategy by integrating HPV vaccination into routine services at permanent village health posts. Backed by local-language community outreach, health extension workers identified and vaccinated over 2,000 girls in just three months. This hybrid approach is now serving as a blueprint for nationwide implementation to help close gaps in rural areas.

Bringing Life-Saving HPV Vaccines to Ethiopia’s Most Remote Communities - JSI Research & Training Institute, Inc. JSI committed to tailored demand generation approaches for out-of-school girls, while integrating HPV vaccination into routine immunization services.

How can data visualization improve hospital operations? After integrating new dashboards into their records system, leadership at Amin General Hospital in Addis Ababa identified an underutilized bed occupancy rate of 46%. By implementing clear admission protocols and new referral partnerships, they increased occupancy to 60% by March 2026. This collaboration across 60 private facilities in Ethiopia shows that when data is treated as a strategic asset, it optimizes both clinical workflows and the bottom line.
