Pride Month is about celebration, visibility, dignity, and belonging. At Guidelight, we know how powerful affirming mental health care can be in supporting LGBTQIA+ individuals. This commitment comes to life through Prism, our Intensive Outpatient Program for LGBTQIA+ individuals led by our Central Park and Cherry Creek teams in Colorado. This Pride Month and beyond, we're committed to care that sees the whole person.

Andy Cruz, MD, is a mission-driven physician-executive working to expand access to transformative, compassion-first mental healthcare.

In 2023, he co-founded Guidelight, a national provider of intermediate behavioral health care (PHP/IOP) that serves clients across all insurance lines. Guidelight exists to close the gap between outpatient and inpatient care—offering a level of treatment that is often the most appropriate and powerful, yet the most challenging to access.

If you feel like you get in your own way, or prevent yourself from reaching for something good out of fear, that’s known as self-sabotage.

Self-sabotage can have long-term negative effects on your relationships and future success. If you’re having trouble adjusting your behaviors, it can be helpful to have some outside guidance.

Talking to a professional mental health provider, such as a therapist, can help you identify your self-sabotaging behaviors, figure out the root causes and learn how to work through them.

Building self-confidence and self-trust is hard — and for many people, especially those living with depression, anxiety, and/or personality disorders, it can feel out of reach. You're not alone in that struggle, and it doesn't mean something is wrong with you. Whether you're in one of our programs or just beginning to explore support, these seven steps are a great place to start:

1️⃣ Notice how you talk to yourself and practice positive self-talk.
2️⃣ Keep small promises to yourself. Consistency strengthens self-trust.
3️⃣ Clarify your values. Align your actions with what matters to you.
4️⃣ Challenge perfectionism. Aim for "good enough.”
5️⃣ Expand your comfort zone gradually. Start with small steps.
6️⃣ Set and maintain boundaries. Your well-being is valuable and deserves to be protected.
7️⃣ Reflect on past resilience. Take time to reflect on challenges you’ve already navigated.

In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, Bea Stronz, the Executive Director of Guidelight Central Park, spoke beautifully about how folks can cope with stress and mental health challenges. Her warmth and expertise came through in every answer — a true reflection of the care Guidelight brings to this work.

Thank you, Bea, for your taking time to be a compassionate ambassador for Guidelight. We are so grateful!

Self-confidence usually refers to the belief in your ability to handle challenges and accomplish tasks. Self-trust is the deeper belief that you can rely on your own judgment, values and inner voice. When both are strong, you’re more likely to set boundaries, take healthy risks and pursue what matters to you.

Guidelight Health can help guide you through steps to build your self-confidence!
