Today, our members and volunteers were out for Memorial Day across the nation, for ceremonies and events to honor and remember our Brothers and Sisters who made the ultimate sacrifice in service of our country.

We are sharing just a few photos from locations in NY, MA, and CA.

Our President and Vice President started the day with a somber yet respectful ceremony to honor and remember two local Veterans. One, KIA in Vietnam and one who passed recently here at home. We also took the time to recognize and remember all those who came home who later died by su***de.

We paid our respects and recognized their families.

Afterwards our VP Major Fred Nielsen, USMC (Ret.), took position as the Grand Marshall of the Glen Cove, NY Memorial Day Parade.

We hope you all had a blessed Memorial Day as you took the time to honor and remember.

Earlier today, SAR Flag Family President and AFSP Long Island Chapter Board Member, Kevin W. Hertell served a dual-role at a Memorial Day Ceremony & event at Hauppauge High School on Long Island, NY.

Kevin met with students, faculty, staff, law enforcement and military to talk about mental health, su***de prevention, and avaible resources.

The beginning ceremony was performed by the NYPD Color Guard, NYPD Band, and the Hauppauge high school choir.

We had a moment of silence, and took time to honor and remember those military who made the ultimate sacrifice in service of our country.

The ceremony was followed by food, fun, games, networking, and community building.

We appreciate the opportunity to serve our local community, especially those students who are the future of our country and for some, the future of our military.

The SAR Flag Family’s mission is to break the stigma of mental health, su***de, and seeking treatment within our warrior culture to facilitate su***de prevention for our Veterans and Military.

The American Foundation for Su***de Prevention mission is to save lives and bring hope to those affected by su***de.
