I will leave this article here about Claudette Colvin, who was the FIRST to refuse to give up her seat during the Civil Rights era.

Because colorism, light skin favor and White adjacence has always been “a thing”, Rosa Parks was placed in history as the first… share this truth with your students this month.

Indigenous Peoples Day: Previously known as Columbus Day, the holiday was transitioned to acknowledge the deep, and diverse histories of the native peoples of the Americas. This is not observed by all states, but the popularity of this holiday is spreading. It is also seen as a rejection of celebrating Columbus Day because of the violent history created by him and other colonizers.
