Sleep Sweet Little One
02/22/2022
The sleepless nights, having to hold your little one for all naps, needing to go p*e but worrying your baby will wake if you move…
So you start to wonder… WHEN can I start sleep training my baby?😫
After 4 months of age is the recommended time to start sleep training!
Now this doesn’t mean you can’t start healthy sleep habit from the start - you absolutely can!
✨ From birth you can:
- Keep an eye on wake windows and the total amount of sleep your little one gets in 24 hours.
- Set up a consistent sleep space that helps rectify day/night confusion.
- You can wait a minute or two before going to get your baby when he/she starts crying.
- Create a safe sleep space for your child, one that can reduce to risk of SIDS.
✨ After 4 months of age you can:
- Start implementing more concrete independent sleep strategies.
- Wait a bit longer before going to see your little one when they wake crying.
- Potentially attempt naps in their own room (not necessary - but some parents like doing this)
- Break sleep crutches or props that have crept their way into your life since birth. (These can be things such as feeding to sleep, bouncing/swinging to sleep, being rocked to sleep etc.)
- Create a routine for sleep - at bed and nap time, it doesn’t have to last forever - it just has to be something consistent that lets your child know that sleep time is coming.
When approaching sleep training it’s not about the cry it out method, it’s about implementing things that make sense for you and your family/parenting style.
Time and time again I hear the fear and link of people thinking:
Sleep Training = Cry It Out.
No. Just No.
Does this mean your child will never shed a tear through sleep training?
Unfortunately, no.
But the techniques I teach are some that make both your and your child feel supported throughout the process!💗

Let me introduce my sweet little one Audrey, she’s a tiny 2 week old sweetie here.💗
Fast forward 8 months and our hearts are still melting everyday!
She’s the reason I got so interested in all things sleep, I had been doing safe sleep practices since birth, trying to navigate the day/night confusion and then the 4 month regression hit.
I thought I was losing it.
My once amazing sleeper was struggling especially at night, where I would have to go in 5-6 times in the first 2-3 hours.
After doing research and pulling myself together I started thinking of it logically.
How did I have success before?
Why is she waking up so often?
Am I the one creating bad habits?
This is when I decided that this was something I was being called to do. To help parents in the same situation as I was.
The troubleshooting aspect of sleep training is so important, it’s not about ignoring your child or letting them cry for hours on end.
It’s about tuning into their cues and realizing that they’re trying to tell us something!
After getting through the 4 month regression I decided to look into taking my Pediatric Sleep Consultant certification. It was hard work doing the course work while taking care of a little one but it being something I loved to learn about made it so much easier!
I truly cherish each client I work with and absolutely love being able to help them navigate the sleep world and help the whole family get back to sleeping with ease!
There are a lot of new faces here - let me know a bit about yourself below!
