Tomorrow is Juneteenth, and I struggle to find any words that actually contribute to the dialog of racism that haven't already been shared more eloquently by Black voices. So instead, I'd like to share this poem accompanied by an image of Ruby Bridges from a client's nursery—
"The world will say to you:
We need to end racism.
Start by
healing it in your own family.
The world will say to you:
How do we speak to bias and bigotry?
Start by
having the first conversation at
your own kitchen table.
The world will say to you:
There is too much hate.
Devote yourself to love.
Love yourself
So much that you can love others
without barriers
and without judgment."
(The lines of the poem are excepted from a TED Talk given by Cleo Wade)
I will teach my babies to love your babies
