💡 The stillness of the night was one of our favorite things on Route 66.

🎶 I intentionally didn't overlay music so you can hear the chorus of night insects.

The thing I really miss is the sound of the neon.

It makes an unmistakable hum that its LED counterpart are just missing.

I think of it like EVs where they add in engine soundtracks just to be audibly pleasing.

Honestly? it's just missing the soul of the original.

🐦 The Blue Swallow Motel in Tucumcari, New Mexico, is famous for being one of the most perfectly preserved, historic, and iconic “motor court” architecture on Route 66, in continuous operation since 1939.

The motel is renowned for its iconic neon sign which features a flashing blue swallow, attached garages, and the pink stucco buildings, that offer a quintessential 1940s road trip experience.

🎬 The motel's distinctive look and neon signage are widely recognized, particularly because the creators of the animated movie Cars visited it while researching the film, using it as a reference for the Cozy Cone Motel.

😉 Regrettably, we were behind schedule the day we launched our journey and departed from Santa Monica, as we had enjoyed our time at the pier and Mel's a little too long.

We just passed by this icon as we cruised down Santa Monica Blvd which is Route 66.

We'll definitely check it out when were back in town.

The Beverly Hills City Hall is the administrative center for the city, known for its distinctive Spanish Renaissance architecture.

Completed in 1932, it featuring an iconic eight story tall tower with a gilded cupola.

🎬 The building houses various city government offices, including the Mayor and City Council, and has become a beloved local landmark and a popular filming location, such as Beverly Hills Cop.

The surrounding park likd Civic Center complex, designed by architect Charles Moore, includes additions like the library and police headquarters.

⛽️ The Route 66 Centennial stamps pay tribute to the legendary Route 66.

📨 There are 8 designs in the official stamp series.

📷 They feature the signature architecture and historic road signs captured by photographer, David J. Schwartz.

✉️ Each of the 8 states on Route 66 is highlighted with an iconic representative of that stretch of highway.
