Acne is a common skin condition that occurs when hair follicles become clogged with oil, dead skin cells, and bacteria. It primarily affects teenagers, but adults can also experience it, especially in areas like the face, back, and shoulders. Acne can vary in severity and may cause pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, cysts, or nodules.
Types:
Comedonal acne: Characterized by non-inflammatory lesions like blackheads and whiteheads.
Inflammatory acne: Includes red, swollen pimples or pustules, often painful.
Cystic acne: Deep, painful cysts or nodules that can cause scarring.
Acne conglobata: A severe form of acne with large, interconnected cysts, usually leading to significant scarring.
Hormonal acne: Triggered by hormonal changes, commonly seen during puberty, menstruation, or pregnancy.
Acne can be frustrating, but with proper skincare and treatment, it can be managed effectively. It’s important to avoid squeezing or picking at acne, as it can lead to scarring.
