Easy running works.
In fact, most endurance athletes should spend a lot of time running easy.
But easy running isn't the same as only running easy. I see runners get stuck because every run starts to feel the same:
Comfortable pace.
Comfortable effort.
Comfortable week after comfortable week.
Then race day arrives and suddenly they're asked to do something they've barely practiced.
Run hard. Hold race pace. Stay uncomfortable.
That's why training needs variety.
Easy runs build endurance. Race pace workouts build confidence. Threshold work teaches you to hold faster paces longer and train your mental and physical grit.
Every workout has a purpose.
If you've been stuck at the same race times for a while, ask yourself:
Are you training for comfort Or training for performance?
