Native Names Rock
Native Names Rock is part of an ongoing community awareness project. Through the art of painting rocks, providing community volunteer events and distribution of Native Names along hiking trails, parks and public areas, this group's mission is to promote opportunities for community engagement and appreciation for the history of land and its Peoples.
The first distribution begins on 7/3 and will include rocks bearing the name: a-tfa'lati
This is the name that the Tualatin Kalapuya peoples called themselves. Their traditional homelands ranged from the Yamhill river, north to Sauvie's Island, West into and around Gaston lake. Their primary winter villages were built in the Tualatin plains. Additional information can be found at ndnhistoryresearch.com (shared with the permission of Dr. David G. Lewis)
