I had the privilege to share Four Funerals in Mamou with the Courville's Catering & Meat Co crowd the past two nights. My good friend Jesi Courville Jones gave me the opportunity to get on stage and share a few paragraphs before Hayes Carll came on. I got to open for Hayes Carll!

I also had the opportunity to tell one of my favorite stories in front of the person the story is about. Never in my life did I think I’d get the chance to do this. Truly amazing.

The story in the video has an ending I promised I would tell. A few years after Steam Boat, The came through town to play Courville’s. I happened to know the drummer, and we got to talking as I was setting up a beer tasting. I told him the The MusicFest at Steamboat story. He thought it was hilarious, and said he was going to tell Cody. I said, “maybe, don’t.” I had never thought about the chance of talking to the person who did the kicking out. He told him.

After the show, as I was packing up my tasting booth, Cody walks over and asked, “Is that story true?” I told him it was, but not to worry. I loved telling it. That was the problem, though. He said stories like that can give him a bad rap. I let him know I understood and he thanked me, but I told him I couldn’t stop telling it. I could tell everyone that Cody Canada is a great person, though. I could thank him, and everyone else at that party for asking me to leave 21 years ago. Thank you for my favorite story. Oh, and God bless Cross Canadian Ragweed .
