LU Resiliency Think Tank

Think Tankers Amy C, Jo B, Mikara L, and Dr. White had fun speaking at the First Gen Connections April Meet Up. Amy, Jo, and Mikara shared their experiences as first gen students serving as research assistants in the Resiliency Think Tank. The meet up was well attended and hosted more than 30 students for lunch, speaker, and lots of door prizes.

We're getting ready for our next distribution event at Night Strike Ministry in early May. We've had a lot of women asking for help with hygiene products so that's our Night Strike focus for this month. Please support our outreach by donating hygiene products for women or men. Thanks for your support.

Great news that Dr. White was chosen for the Outstanding Scholarship & Inquiry Poster Award during last week's Gulf-South Summit on Service Learning and Civic Engagement hosted by the University of Houston-Downtown. Spreading the good news about the Think Tank everywhere she goes!

Lamar students and alumni... the Dishman Art Museum and the Resiliency Think Tank invite you to submit your work for Bridges of Belonging: The Art of Humanity, Humility, and Resiliency! Dropoff is May 18-22 and the exhibition runs from June 12-August 14.

Artistic response to poverty and homelessness is of special interest.

Think Tankers Amy C, Mikara L, and Dr. White spent the morning sanding boards for children's beds made by Sleep in Heavenly Peace - TX, Beaumont. Since 2019, SHP Beaumont has built and delivered more than 6,500 beds to children throughout Southeast Texas! No kid sleeps on the floor in our town!

Another successful Night Strike outreach event with Think Tankers Josiah B, Amy C, Mikara L, and Dr. White. Tonight we distributed adult and children's clothing, hygiene kits, and Pocket Pal Resource Guides.

LU Resiliency Think Tank had a great time attending the Region 5 Education Service Center McKinney-Vento CBO (Community Based Organizations) event. This year's theme was "Strengthening the Safety Net" and we learned about several new programs available to support vulnerable families in Southeast Texas.

We even had the opportunity to share news of our collaboration with Region 5 McKinney-Vento and Camp Fire for the upcoming Absolutely Incredible Kids Day on March 19.
