The home was built in 1892 by August Metzger, a prominent German-Jewish merchant .

In 1924, the property was purchased by Thomas M. Bryan and Lotta Ventress Bryan, cementing its compound name.

Dr. Catchings practiced medicine at this specific site for half a century until his death in 1985.

The original structure is a one-story masonry building featuring a gabled end with five bays facing the street, complete with a brick wainscot and exposed rafter ends.
