Did you know?

In Mandarin, the tone used when pronouncing a syllable can change its meaning entirely. For example, the syllable "ma" can mean:

mā (妈) – mother

má (麻) – h**p

mǎ (马) – horse

mà (骂) – to scold

This tonal aspect makes Mandarin both challenging and intriguing to learn

To remember Qu Yuan’s loyalty and bravery, people race dragon boats, make zongzi, and spend time with family every year during the Dragon Boat Festival.

The villagers who admired Qu Yuan rushed to the river in boats to try to save him. They beat drums and splashed their paddles to scare away the fish and evil spirits. They also threw rice into the river so the fish wouldn’t eat his body.

The Chinese Language School of Baton Rouge (CLSBR) is excited to announce our 2025 Chinese Language Immersion Summer Day Camp! This is a fantastic opportunity for children aged 5–11 to immerse themselves in Chinese language and culture through engaging activities.

Session I: May 26 – June 13, 2025

Session II: July 14 – August 1, 2025

🕘 Camp Hours: Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

A long time ago in ancient China, there lived a kind and wise man named Qu Yuan. He loved his country very much and worked hard as an advisor to the king. But some dishonest people lied about him, and he was sent away from the royal court.
