Please join First Lady Donna Edwards and I in praying for the family of our friend Leah Saye Guerry, who passed away yesterday at the age of 89. Throughout her distinguished career, Leah was a determined advocate for the legal rights of Louisianans. A graduate of SMU Law School, Leah was a founder and longtime executive director of what is now known as the Louisiana Association for Justice. Her visionary leadership resulted in her earning lifetime achievement awards from the National Association of Trial Lawyer Executives and the Louisiana Democratic Party, among other honors too numerous to list. Just as importantly, she was a friend, mentor, and supporter of countless Louisianans who shared her passion to make Louisiana a better place. Our state benefited greatly from her life, work, and intellect. She will be dearly missed.
