LSU AgCenter - Livestock

On June 12th, eighteen producers from across the state graduated from the Advanced Master Cattleman Program at the Hill Farm Research Station.

Advanced Master Cattleman began in 2019 as a subsequent course to the Master Cattleman Program. It was designed to provide in-depth discussions and presentations on various topics and include hands-on training. Producers must successfully complete the Master Cattleman prior to registering for Advanced Master Cattleman. Classes are taught by AgCenter experts and cover topics including bull selection, BQA, financial management, soil fertility, forage management and diet formulation. Outdoor demonstrations and hands-on training feature sprayer calibration, w**d identification, grazing management and cow pelvic area measurement.

We are excited to announce that registration is open for the *NEW* Master Small Ruminant Program.

The Master Small Ruminant Program is a hands-on experience featuring practical instruction, field tours and interactive activities designed to equip small ruminant (both goat and sheep) producers with the skills and knowledge needed for successful operations in Louisiana.

As many of you know, Central Louisiana has experienced devastating flooding over the past week, leaving many livestock producers with damaged pastures and limited forage supplies.

In response, the Louisiana Farm Bureau Livestock Advisory Committee acted quickly to reopen the Louisiana Farm Bureau Hay Clearinghouse to help connect producers who have hay, feed, supplements, or transportation available with those who are in need.

Our Livestock Advisory Committee has done an outstanding job stepping up to support fellow producers during this difficult time. The attached press release provides additional information about the Hay Clearinghouse and how the program will work moving forward.
