This is my great-uncle Robert New. Killed in action in the Philippines in 1944.
Memorial Day is a time of remembrance.

Today, we pause to remember and honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to our nation. I also remember those in my own family who served in the American Armed Forces and have since passed on. Their courage, sacrifice, and love of country helped preserve the freedoms we enjoy every day.

Freedom is not free. It was purchased at a tremendous cost of the lives of brave men and women who willingly stood in harm’s way so that others could live in liberty. The blessings we often take for granted were built upon the backs, sacrifices, and ultimate gifts of those who answered the call to serve.

As we gather with family and friends today, may we never forget those who never came home, and may we honor their memory not only with our words, but with lives worthy of the sacrifice they made.
