Uber was founded as “UberCab” in March 2009 by Garrett Camp and Travis Kalanick in San Francisco. The service officially launched to the public in San Francisco on July 5, 2010, initially operating as a luxury black car service. The idea was conceived in 2008 in Paris, and a prototype test run was held in NYC in early 2010.
