Our first single from Tommy Taylor and I’s live album opening up for Eric Johnson is coming out this Friday! It’s a song of Tommy’s called “I’m Sorry”

I’ve grown to really love opening with this song, as we did at the The Aztec Theatre here. It just oozes 90’s jangle pop/ Gin Blossoms Here is my guitar solo for said song :)

The first single from our live album comes out Friday! It’s one of Tommy’s called “I’m sorry” which has quickly become one of my favorites of his.

It's odd having a LIVE version of a song come out before the studio version but...hey! No Rules, right?

Some songs take literally YEARS to write. This one started in back in 2020 and I only completed it last year.

Interactions are weird. Everyone's been there...you're sitting there and try as you may, you can't discover what happened. It can be anyone who you're close to. All of a sudden you're the bad guy and they're pi**ed and you are being vilified. You have no idea what is going on.

With me, people know I have opinions and I might say anything. It doesn't mean I'm a bad guy or out to hurt anyone. I'm also not contrived. At this point I am who I am. I've spent a lot of time often trying to "fit in" with different people that I wanted to get to know better or work with. Then for some reason you're not in the club or you don't hear from someone for a long time. What went wrong may plague your thoughts. Especially if you know that you have seen signals of ruffling their feathers and you've tried to avoid it. Sometimes they are very close and you just scratch your head. The last verse kind of addresses that.

"Even walkin' on ice, you know somehow I'm bound to get burned." 😉 It's clever as hell if I do say so myself. That phrase walkiin' on ice...we all do that with people who are easily triggered....but ice is cold....the juxtaposition of being burned in the same breath...yeah I'll pat myself on the back for that one.

So this one kind of gave birth to the chorus first. I had a bridge. I kind of toyed with co writes with a couple of people who didn't take the bait. I wrote lots of songs after that. LOTS. The song had a strong chorus and I love the bridge. It's quick and nice changes.

I was stalled with anything new so I said....let's see what we could do here. It's a jangle pop thing and it got some Hill Country influence from hangin' with the cats in the scene. It became less personal and more universal as the verses came together. There some definitely clever lines here...I was glad to have finished another one. Ryan St. Clair had heard the embryonic chorus and bridge back in the day. He liked the finished work. He's my biggest fan so I run them by him first.

He really liked it. I was a little on the fence. Up tempo songs are so hard for an emo like me to write. Sometimes you're just too close to something and also a lot of the material on Across the Stars was very complex. Not everything is, and most of what "made it" on radio in the day wasn't. Usually people write the simple stuff first and the complex stuff as they develop. I'm kind of reversing the trend. I'm still a stickler...
If it doesn't hit that magic in some way I'll dump it.
This song has really come through and we chose to open our shows with it!

The chorus is one we can all sing along to...

"If it's somethin' that I said I'm sorry
But you should know me by now
I guess there's always two sides to a story
But it don't have to be this way."

Relationships and friendships of lifetimes can go south over a few words. It's pretty silly that people throw things away over things like that.

"I'm Sorry" - Live at the Aztec Theatre is dropping Friday and I'd REALLY love it if ALL OF YOU would pre save it (link in the comments) because that kicks the
AL GORE RHYTHM in the pants....help a brutha' out!

I’m beyond excited to announce the release of our live album “Tommy Taylor & Ryan St. Clair - Live at the Aztec Theatre” coming June 30! This was recorded during our set opening up for in San Antonio, April 26.

While and I will both release 1 track each to Spotify and Apple Music etc, this will predominantly be a physical only release, where all proceeds from it will go toward travel expenses to fund future shows of ours outside of Austin and beyond.

I dreamed of getting to open for Eric when I was 15. Needless to say, this album consists of one of the most special moments of my life - and now, we get to share it with everyone!

ALRIGHT! Monthly email newsletter for my full monthly gig schedule is now live at the link in bio.

I used to post every gig I was doing on here. But, when it came down to promoting a show that was really special to me, like a showcase at the Saxon Pub featuring just my original tunes, posting every gig kind of muddied the waters. So, I stopped.

Still though, people missed knowing where I was playing in case they wanted to come see me on short notice. Though I don’t want to promote every cover gig I’m doing on here anymore, I still feel like anyone who wants to come see me in any fashion is entitled to that. So, this newsletter option seems the best way to meet halfway.

Sign up at the link in my bio! The first one comes out on June 1 :)
