In 2018, Phoenix LiDAR introduced LiDARMill, the first cloud-based LiDAR post-processing platform.

At a time when processing LiDAR data required powerful local machines and complex workflows, LiDARMill changed the approach entirely, allowing users to upload raw data to the cloud, process it automatically, and generate accurate, georeferenced point clouds faster and more efficiently.

By simplifying trajectory processing, calibration, classification, and data delivery into a streamlined cloud workflow, LiDARMill made high-quality LiDAR processing more accessible to teams of all sizes.

Make sure you check out our first LiDARMill video on YouTube at the link in our comments.

The launch of LiDARMill created a more accessible, scalable way of working with LiDAR data.

Great week at the Topodot User Conference in Orlando!

Our team spent the week giving live mobile LiDAR demos, attending classes and technical sessions, catching up with customers and industry partners, and meeting plenty of new faces along the way. Events like this are always a great opportunity to share workflows, see how others are solving challenges in the field, and talk about where geospatial technology is headed next.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to see us, ask questions, watch demos, or just say hello. We appreciate all of the conversations and collaboration throughout the week, and weโ€™re already looking forward to the next one.

Weren't able to make it by during TUCS for a demo? You can email our team at [email protected] to schedule a personalized demo!

In 2017, Phoenix LiDAR introduced one of the first real-time point cloud visualization systems with RGB colorization.

This enabled users to see fully colorized point clouds as they were being collected, providing immediate insight into the spatial coverage of the imagery and quality of the camera/lidar calibration.

This shift gave operators the ability to catch issues in real time, reducing re-flights and improving confidence in the data before leaving the field.

That same year marked a wave of innovation for Phoenix, including advancements in cloud processing and flight planning tools, helping redefine how LiDAR data is captured and delivered.

History of Phoenix LiDAR | 2013

Back in 2013, UAV LiDAR wasnโ€™t yet an industry; it was an emerging idea, and we were busy pushing the limits of what was possible.

The very first video on our YouTube channel highlights an early proof of concept, where our team captured the Chargers stadium using a Phoenix AL-2 LiDAR system mounted on a UAV, demonstrating that high-quality 3D data could be collected from a drone platform.

That same year, Dr. Wolfgang Juchmann from Velodyne presented that same integration at the sUSB Expo, earning a standing ovation and signaling just how impactful this technology could be.

Watch to the end for our first proof of concept for mobile mapping!

Itโ€™s incredible to look back at where it started and how far the technology has come.
