I used to live by the beach, in Arakwal country, my windows were always open and I could hear the ocean at all hours of the day. The sound would rock me to sleep, it was an ever present force in my life at the time. Often I’d walk the few steps down to the beach, take my sandals off and walk to Broken Head, it would take me an hour to get there and an hour back. I’d see dolphins and sometimes whales. I rarely brought a phone with me, it was me, my thoughts and the ocean. When I came back my lips were salty and my mind was clear.
