"It Comes In Waves" was a true labor of love for Austin artist, Ashley Compton. She is known for her visceral, one-of-a-kind, textured pieces, which utilize reclaimed materials. "This is the biggest and longest project I've ever worked on as an artist. When I started it, I had no idea what it was going to become; literally no plans whatsoever. All I knew was that I wanted it to evolve as I worked on it, letting it guide me to the finished product. On and off for four years, it slowly developed along with me. The highs and lows, the darkness and light, all reflect who I am as a person and artist. This is my favorite and most meaningful piece to date." - Ashley Compton Ashley's technique, which she calls "tufting," is created by tearing old magazine pages into squares, folding them into "tufts," attaching them to the canvas, and then painting to create a unique, textural experience.
