Singing With Sydney

If you would have told me in January 2020 that I would be here now, I would have been SHOOK 😂 My own journey with singing has been a winding one, and to find myself now as a singing teacher/coach for 3 years straight is amazing.

I have a lot of wonderful people in my life who have made it possible for me to pursue this—family, friends and colleagues who have believed in me, invested in my education, trusted me to teach someone they know and love, created space for my skill set, and so much more. I have a long way to go to become the kind of singer and voice educator I hope to be, but I’m incredibly proud and grateful for how far I’ve come and that I’ve never done it alone. 💕

To any aspiring voice teachers out there—begin with the deep love you have for what you know. You’ll never know enough, but what you do know is almost always enough to start. You’ll learn along the way and it never stops. And it’s a whole lot of fun inspiring others to be their most honest and fullest selves through the outlet of their voice!

Here’s to a lot more learning and a lot more singing! 🥂

When I sit down to book my voice lessons for the month I get a humbling little notice from my calendar that lists the number of appointments I have coming up. How high or low the number is doesn’t really matter. But putting a number on the voice lessons I teach in a month somehow helps me get a perspective on the number of opportunities I have as a teacher…

In February, I have 52 opportunities.

52 opportunities to share with someone else in a moment of self-discovery.

52 opportunities to share in someone’s growth and to grow myself as an educator.

52 opportunities to witness and uphold someone’s journey of expression, and to be challenged in how true I am to my own.

There are countless other opportunities amidst these 52 moments I get in a month. As a teacher (especially a singing teacher), it can be easy to find yourself awash in the flow of lessons, just trying to keep up with who is singing what, what each person is dealing with or working on, and how you keep your energy up to best meet each person where they are at. Today, looking at the number 52 reminded me yet again what a privilege it is that I get to do what I do and have so many opportunities to do it.

To my fellow teachers out there, I believe in you and the opportunities you will step into this coming month! May you be refreshed as to the goodness you bring to the lives of others and excited at what discovery, growth, and expression awaits you and the singers who cross your path 💕🙏🏼
