A beautiful celebration of life and community at yesterday. New features were publicly unveiled, including the new learning nook, soccer field and the Edgar Flores Memorial Ethnobotanical Garden, the first garden of its kind to be named for a Hispanic person in Georgia. The Flores family, as well as a huge presence from the Atlanta Police Department - including Police Chief Erika Shields and the Latino Mounted Unit - paid tribute to the life of this young officer who gave so much to our city in the short time he served before his untimely death. It was a truly moving event that served as a promise that Officer Flores will never be forgotten.

Members of the community recently came together at Sara J. Gonzalez Memorial Park to build a community garden honoring Dekalb County Police Officer Édgar Isidro Flores who was killed in the line of duty in 2018. The Gonzalez family requested the community garden be named for Flores, “whose actions embodied the spirit of what Ms. Gonzalez stood for: community, service and heritage.”
