Celebrating 100 years of Sprayberry’s Bar-B-Q was more than a treat today — it was a tribute to community, family, and one of the South’s most enduring food legacies. What started in 1926, when Houston Sprayberry sold barbecue out of the back of his gas station, became a place generations have made part of their lives, their travels, and their traditions.

For a century, the Sprayberry family has carried this place forward — keeping the original recipes, the wood-smoked pork, and that unmistakable Brunswick stew alive generation after generation. Along the way, Sprayberry’s has welcomed everyone from locals to legends — even a young Alan Jackson, who once worked here before becoming a country music icon, and writer Lewis Grizzard, who famously called it “merely the best barbecue joint on earth.”

The celebration was made even sweeter with a beautiful anniversary cake by Bonne Boyd Bedingfield — a meaningful full-circle moment, as her father, the late David Boyd Sr., a deeply beloved artist and pillar of Newnan, originally drew the iconic Sprayberry’s logo so many of us instantly recognize.

You’ll still find me stopping in for lunch whenever I can — because some places never lose their magic, and Sprayberry’s is one of them. This isn’t just a restaurant; it’s a cornerstone of Newnan. Here’s to 100 years, and many more to come.

Happy Thanksgiving! I have so much to be grateful for this year — especially the opportunity to serve my constituents and our community. Grateful for our families, our neighbors, and the place we all call home. Wishing you a warm and wonderful holiday.

Last week, I had the honor and privilege of attending Dinner with the Delegation hosted by the Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce. This fabulous group embodies such deep care for Coweta County — leaders who show up, stay engaged, and work collaboratively to support the growth and well-being of our community.

The purpose of this dinner is to strengthen relationships between our Chamber Board of Directors and the elected officials who work every day to advance the priorities of Coweta County.
