Flower friends, I’ve been thinking about rituals that ground you to your place. Especially been on my mind since moving from NYC to NC.

So I’ve been making things with local farm flowers and yard clippings just for the experience lately. Totally different for me. I usually only create for event work honestly. I love the idea of becoming closer to a place thru it’s natural elements.

And then I thought, this would be even better if it was communal. So, I want to invite you to join me! Every-ish Friday I’m gonna try to post a piece made with only local ingredients. Designers and novices all welcome to make something in their place. Hash tag it and list your ingredients so we can learn from each other. Photo or video post, story, reel, whatever. Also feel free to share any thoughts as you reflect while making your piece- real-deal or lighthearted thoughts are both perfect.

It also can be something you’re making for work of course if you’re in the floral studio on Friday. 🙂 Can be simple as a bud vase for your kitchen or a large urn arrangement fit for a celebration! Thought it might be a fun way to intentionally reflect one one’s place as well as celebrate the beauty of local flowers. ✨

I feel like good design is half HOW you arrange something and half WHAT you’re arranging- The art of sourcing/ choosing visually meaningful ingredients is something I want to master! It’s a journey, but sometimes local flowers make your job look real easy. 😍

New album on the site featuring a fave event from 2021. 💯% local August flowers!

Florist confession! Funny enough, when I got married in late March ten years ago (just a couple months before I got my first flower job) I carried a slim single ingredient bouquet…so ahead of the trend haha, buuuuut it was made of all sunflowers. In March! The reason honestly was partly bc I did love sunflowers but also bc they were $3.99 a bunch at Trader Joe’s (where I used to work as a sign artist for many yrs) and I was a whopping 24 yrs old- with a modest income. And, let’s be real. I hadn’t really thought that hard yet about where my flowers were grown or the true pleasure of connecting a sense of season and place to an event through flowers. My journey to absolutely loving seasonal flowers, especially grown by local farmers, just hadn’t started yet. I’m thankful for experiences and people in my life who ignited my path towards learning more, and I still am an intrigued student today.

But if I got married to Michael again today, I would want something similar to this bouquet in photo…slim and easy to hold, but I think I’d go ALL local ranunculus, with some butterfly ranunculus for airiness.
