The RMS Carpathia was a Cunard Line passenger ship built in England and entered service in 1903. She was about 558 feet long and became widely known for her role in the RMS Titanic disaster, when Captain Arthur Rostron pushed her at full speed through ice-filled waters to reach survivors. Carpathia arrived after Titanic had sunk and rescued 712 people from lifeboats, later carrying them safely to New York.🔥🇺🇸🦅
She was lost during World War I on July 17, 1918, while sailing in convoy from Liverpool toward Boston. After her es**rt left, German submarine U-55 attacked west of Ireland. Torpedoes struck her port side and engine room, killing five crew members and disabling the ship. With wireless damaged, distress signals were sent by flags and rockets as passengers and crew evacuated. A third torpedo caused further damage, and she sank about 1 hour and 45 minutes after the first hit.🔥🇺🇸🦅

Lockheed Martin F35A Lightning II 🔥✈️👑

The A-10 Thunderbolt II once again proved why it is known as one of the most rugged combat aircraft ever built. After sustaining a missile strike that heavily compromised its right engine, the aircraft was still able to return and execute a safe landing. The jet’s redundant hydraulic systems, combined with backup manual control capability, allowed the pilot to retain stability and control despite the severe damage.
Nicknamed the “flying tank,” the A-10 is specifically engineered for survivability. Its standout feature, the “Titanium Bathtub,” is a heavily armored enclosure that shields the pilot, allowing the aircraft to endure intense impacts and still complete its mission.
On April 8, 2003, A-10 Thunderbolt II tail number 80-0258, flown by then-Major Gary “Wolfman” Wolf, departed Ahmed Al Jaber Air Base in Kuwait on a mission to support Coalition forces advancing toward Baghdad. While conducting low-level reconnaissance over a convoy, the aircraft was suddenly hit in its right engine by a surface-to-air missile.
Despite the violent impact, the aircraft remained controllable—highlighting the A-10’s renowned durability in combat. Major Wolf later reflected that the jet’s ability to stay airborne under such conditions was a powerful example of its battlefield resilience.
Maintaining composure, he stabilized the damaged aircraft, released countermeasures, and redirected toward friendly territory. For approximately 45 minutes, he nursed the crippled jet through the air until reaching Tallil Air Base in southern Iraq, more than 100 miles away. Against the odds, he landed safely.
Once on the ground, the extent of the damage stunned onlookers, from fellow pilots to ground crews and media personnel. The aircraft had endured severe structural and engine damage yet remained flyable long enough to bring its pilot home.
Years later, Major Wolf recalled the mission with pride, noting the extraordinary capabilities of the A-10 and the teams behind it. He also expressed deep appreciation for the aircraft that carried him safely through one of the most intense moments of his career—an aircraft he would never forget.
This incident powerfully underscores the A-10’s legendary reputation for survivability. Designed to absorb punishment and keep flying, the “Warthog” continues to demonstrate unmatched resilience in real combat conditions—protecting both its pilot and its mission until the very end. ✈️🇺🇸
