Today, many will celebrate freedom.

For me, this day is also an invitation to reflect on what freedom asks of us.

Freedom is more than history. More than a holiday. More than words we celebrate once a year.

It's found in creating spaces where people no longer feel they must shrink to belong, silence themselves to be accepted, or prove their humanity to be treated with dignity.

As a Black woman, I've spent much of my life studying leadership, identity, and the experience of invisibility. That perspective shapes how I see the world, and it reminds me that freedom is both something we honor and something we continue striving to make more real for one another.

Today, I celebrate progress. I honor those who came before us. And I remain hopeful for the work still ahead.
