A few things to consider when purchasing a gaited trail horse…

*Can they maintain gait if not being ridden on asphalt or some other hard surface?
*Can they be ridden in a snaffle bit or is a “special bit” required?
*Are they developmentally correct with engagement from the hindquarters or are they hollow and on the forehand?
*Do they require “special shoes” to gait?
*Will they stand quietly without being micromanaged?
*Are they capable of traveling with balance, fluidity and relaxation on a draped rein?
*Will they willingly leave the group and ride out alone?
*Can they be ridden in the middle or back of the group?

Don’t be guilty of just listening for the footfall or looking for the smooth ride! A little due diligence on your part can save you lots of grief and frustration in the end🤠

True gait isn't just an easy weekend deal.

It's correct riding.

It's knowing the horse's body inside and out - where he's tight, where he's weak, and where he hurts.

And it's correct development that takes time.

That means back first, strength first, brain first, and gait last. If you do that, the gait shows up.

Everything else is just a lie your horse pays the price for.

I am thankful for a quiet moment this morning to sit and listen to the rain, pausing just a bit before our day gets started. Moments like these are rare when we are traveling, but they are most certainly beneficial for the soul. I hope you all have a wonderful day and that you find time for a pause🤠
