Yom Kippur – The Lord’s Feast
When you read Leviticus 23, the Bible never calls them the “feasts of the Jews,” it calls them the feasts of the Lord. That means they belong to God, not just Israel, and they all point us to Jesus.
Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, was the most serious day on God’s calendar. It was the one day each year when the high priest would go into the Holy of Holies with the blood of sacrifice to cover the sins of the people. It was a day of fasting, repentance, and humbling before God.
But all of that was a shadow of what Jesus came to do. Hebrews says that Christ entered the greater tabernacle, not with the blood of animals, but with His own blood to secure eternal redemption for us. The high priest had to go back every year, but Jesus did it once for all.
So why should Christians care about Yom Kippur and the other feasts? Because they are God’s appointed times. They show us His plan of salvation and they point us to Christ. Passover points to the cross. Pentecost points to the Spirit. The fall feasts point to His return.
For us, Yom Kippur is a time to reflect, repent, and give thanks that the blood of Jesus cleanses us fully. It’s not about keeping rituals but about honoring the Lord’s calendar and seeing His plan more clearly. These are His feasts, and when we honor them, we are honoring Him.
