Do you know what SAD is? Seasonal Affective Disorder. Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that follows a seasonal pattern—most commonly appearing in the fall and winter months when daylight decreases. People may notice mood changes, lower energy, sleep disruption, or increased emotional sensitivity. While SAD impacts many people, individuals living with chronic illness or recovering from major medical procedures—such as organ transplant—may be even more vulnerable due to stress, fatigue, and lifestyle changes.
Common Symptoms
Low mood or sadness most of the day
Fatigue or low energy
Increased sleep or trouble waking up
Changes in appetite or weight
Loss of interest in activities
Difficulty concentrating
Feeling hopeless or overwhelmed.
