There's a stretch of the Copper River corridor in Wrangell-St. Elias where the mountains go straight up from the flats and the nearest road is days away in any direction. You pitch your tent on the tundra, the peaks fill the entire sky, and the silence is so complete you can hear the river a mile off. We call this area the Heart of the Park. It's not on any tourist map. You have to walk in or float in to find it.
