FROM THE KITCHEN TABLE TO THE YARD, No. 03
Your child is using AI for homework. The question is not whether. It's how.
Let's be honest about where we are. The chatbot is right there. Your kid knows it, their friends know it, and "just don't use it" is a rule that lasts about as long as it takes you to leave the room.
So we're not going to pretend. We're going to teach.
There's a difference between a tool that thinks for you and a tool you think with. That difference is the whole ballgame.
When a kid types "write my essay," the machine thinks and the child disappears. Nothing got learned. But when a kid writes their own paragraph and asks "where is my argument weak," now the machine is a coach and the child is still in charge. Same tool. Two completely different futures.
That's the skill we have to put in their hands. Not avoiding AI. Directing it.
Teach them to ask it to explain, not to answer. To check its work, because it's confidently wrong all the time. To use it to push their thinking further instead of skipping the thinking altogether.
Because here's what's coming. The jobs our kids are walking into won't ask "can you avoid AI." They'll ask "can you direct it." The young people who learn to be the driver, not the passenger, are the ones who'll lead. And that habit, thinking for yourself while using powerful tools, is exactly what a real CS education builds, all the way to the Yard and into the field.
Don't ban the tool. Teach the judgment.
How's AI showing up in your house right now? Drop it below, no judgment, we're all figuring this out.
Culture first. Code always.

Real innovation does not happen in isolation. It happens at the table with the village.Value: We are bringing the village together in Atlanta.
On Friday, June 26, our Founder, Coach Victor Hicks, is hosting the Goodie FC Community Dinner at Oreatha's At The Point on Cascade Road. This exclusive, 10-person gathering is built specifically for Black and Brown education innovators, workforce leaders, and community builders who are serious about shifting our youth from consumers to creators.
We are turning a busy global sports moment into a relationship-driven movement for our classrooms and institutions. To ensure our leaders stay equipped with real technical depth, Coach Hicks will be handing out free Google Career Certificates to attendees to bring back to their networks. The Invite: Space is strictly limited and requires approval.

Here is a free CS lesson hiding inside the World Cup. Parents, this one is for you.
That ball they are kicking this summer has a sensor inside it sending data 500 times every second. Cameras track every player's body, and AI builds 3D models that help make the offside call in seconds. What you see on screen is computer science doing its job in real time.
So next time you are watching with your child, ask one question: how do you think the computer knows exactly where every player is standing? That question is the doorway. That is data, sensors, and AI meeting the game they already love.
You do not have to be a coder to start the conversation. You just have to ask. We will handle the rest.
