This is simply profound, but it warrants some explanation to unpack it a bit.

It's not saying you're supposed to be each others' savior....Here's what the author means: we are to love each other sacrificially and selflessly, the way God loved us when he sent his only Son to die for our sins.

How can we possibly do that in marriage? Honestly, it's impossible on our own. We are far too self-centered and much too imperfect to love perfectly.

That is why the gospel is absolutely essential for marriage.

The light of the gospel, when shone on your marriage, will compel you love with the same love you've experienced in Christ.

Seek Christ first in how you listen to your spouse, seek Christ first in how you respond to circumstances, and seek Christ first in how you extend grace.

May your marriage be strong and your union tight; and may your every joy be found in Christ.
