Becks Helping Hands

This past week, our family experienced something we never want another family to face 💔

Beck became critically ill after contracting the flu and developed sepsis, a life threatening complication that can escalate quickly, especially in immunocompromised individuals and those with complex medical needs.

What started as symptoms many families see during flu season turned into a medical emergency FAST. Beck’s blood pressure dropped significantly, and with his underlying conditions, doctors made it clear it was not safe for him to be discharged. His BP was 49/30 with a HR of 170 when we arrived by ambulance.

Had we waited even one more day, the outcome could have been very different. I was told this by his nurse as he hugged me in the hallway.

Beck spent Christmas in the hospital under close monitoring in the PICU. Today, we are thankful to share that he is home but still under close medical supervision, with numerous follow-up appointments scheduled this week to ensure continued stability and healing. He’s also loaded with numerous medications.

We are also SO incredibly grateful that his port did not become infected. This is something we know could have made this situation even more dangerous.

We are sharing this not to create fear, but to create awareness.

Please take the flu seriously.
Please protect those who are medically fragile.
Please trust your instincts if something feels off.
And please seek care early — even if you worry you’re overreacting!

Beck’s Helping Hands exists because families like ours live this reality every day. For medically fragile children and individuals, equipment, advocacy, and support are not extras — they are lifelines.

We are deeply grateful for the medical teams who acted quickly, and for the community that continues to surround Beck and our family with love, prayers, and support.
