It’s a little strange for my generation to realize there are still “firsts” like this to be had. And it makes me even more grateful for leaders like you who are willing to step up and pave the way for those who will follow.

Thank you for modeling what it looks like to serve your community with courage and conviction. And thank you to both you and Dad for showing us, from a young age, that leadership and generosity go hand in hand.

In 30 years, we’ve seen incredible growth, and this year, we’re making history. During Women’s History Month, we proudly celebrate Susan Eubanks Nicholson, the Community Foundation’s first female Board Chair. A meaningful step forward and a powerful reminder that leadership shapes the future of our region.

It’s time for one of my favorite events of the year, the Heritage Academy Shakes Competition 👏

Heritage middle schoolers compete in three rounds where they’re judged on their handshake, eye contact, and ability to carry a conversation. And this year? They’re bringing back a new networking round.

Judges are stationed around the gym, and students have to confidently walk up and strike up a conversation. No script. No prompt. Just courage and curiosity.

Honestly… who doesn’t need more training in that skill?

I can’t say enough about Heritage Academy for modeling what it looks like to teach real life skills, confidence, presence, and professionalism.
