A Tuscany trend I fully support: skipping the hotel and staying in an entirely restored borgo, a centuries-old hamlet brought back to life.

Borgo Pignano, near Volterra, is my favorite example. The estate covers 750 organic acres of classic Tuscan hills, and on clear days, you can spot the towers of San Gimignano from the gardens.

The detail everyone photographs: the swimming pool, carved into an ancient limestone quarry on the property. There’s a working artist residency with open studios and a kitchen that bakes its bread with wheat grown right on the land.

It feels less like checking into a hotel and more like inheriting a Tuscan estate for the week.

Tuscany, planned well, is a trip you never forget. Reach out, and I’ll build it around Pignano.
