Most decks don’t need to be replaced—they need to be worked on the right way.

Here’s the order that actually makes a difference:

• Check the structure first — framing, posts, and supports
• Replace any loose or damaged boards — don’t build on a weak surface
• Sand everything down — this is where most shortcuts happen
• Upgrade the railing — easiest way to modernize the look
• Restain or paint — bring it back to life and protect it

Do it in this order, and you’re not just improving how it looks…
you’re extending the life of the entire deck.
