Driver Justin Miller (left) Lt. Trevor Fitzgerald deployed to Marble Falls, Texas, Wednesday as part of the Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System (TIFMAS). They could be deployed for up to 21 days.

The TIFMAS program is coordinated by the Texas A&M Forest Service and is a framework through which fire and rescue agencies work together to provide support for state and national incidents as diverse as hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, and wildfires.

The Athens Fire Department is selling pink t-shirts for its annual cancer fundraiser. Shirts cost $20 and come in all sizes, with proceeds benefiting cancer victims in Henderson County (49%) and local firefighters battling cancer (51%).

Shirts are on sale at Central Fire Station from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., as well as at Island Tans and Tree House Cupcakes. Firefighters will also be at the Athens Farmers Market starting Saturday, Sept. 14, to sell shirts. Additionally, shirts will be available at both Athens High School home football games on Oct. 11 and Oct. 18.

Pink Out Night is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 18, when everyone in the community is encouraged to wear pink in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among women in the United States, with about a 13 precent lifetime risk. This means that 1 in 8 women in the U.S. will develop breast cancer during their lifetime.
