Here is a short snip from the Herald times to give you a perspective: The year was 1928. A group of engineers, led by explorer Leo Lambert, were digging an elevator shaft within Lookout Mountain Caverns.After 92 days and nights of drilling through 420 feet of solid stone, the crew reached its target.But Lambert also discovered something he never expected to find. Some 260 feet down, Lambert was overtaken by an unfamiliar gust of wind.Searching for the source, he discovered a small crevice measuring 18 inches high and four feet wide that disappeared into the mountain.That led Lambert on an amazing journey."He traveled for 17 hours — much of on his hands and knees," says guide Brent Wade. "He crawled for six hours before he got to a place where he could stand."Lambert was rewarded for his tortuous trip. He stumbled upon a spectacular waterfall and breathtaking scenes of rock formations and mineral deposits within a large cave.
