A Magical Friendship Journey

Did you know I am unschooled? That means I learn experientially. For example, instead of doing language arts curriculum, I wrote a book. I was 8 years old when I started and was 12 when it was finally published. It was a project that took several years to complete. I worked with an editor and illustrator, then a publisher and now marketing.

I always had a very clear picture in my head of what the illustrations should look like. I had to describe every page in detail for the illustrator, . The she would sketch the page from my notes. I would ask for changes and then she painted the final design. All 44 pages were done this way!

Every character in the story was inspired by an animal from my rescue farm. That is where I lived, from birth until age 10.

Each photo in this post displays my original art of a character. I drew them when I was 8. The final character design by and a photo of the animal that inspired the character.
