Anderson County 911 received a call just before 5:00 pm today for a person who had disappeared in the water while swimming at Singing Pines Recreation Park.

Anderson County Sheriff's Office, Anderson County Sheriff's Office Marine Unit, Anderson County EMS, Anderson County Fire Department, and Medshore Ambulance Service responded to the incident. While en route, responders were advised that there were two victims.

Anderson County Sheriff's Special Operations Team Divers arrived on the scene and quickly rescued the two individuals from the bottom of the lake. EMS personnel initiated resuscitative efforts and transported both individuals to AnMed Medical Center, where they both were pronounced at 6:25 pm.
The deceased victims have been identified as:

Investigation indicates that the victims were wading in the lake and apparently stepped off in an area of the lake that was approximately 8-10 feet deep. When the first victim did not resurface, the second victim entered the water to rescue him and then did not resurface either. Both victims were recovered in close proximity to each other, approximately 43 feet from shore. Neither victim could swim.
