Project Spotlight: Featured Sketch

We continually strive to enhance the patient, visitor and caregiver experience in hospitals and medical buildings, which are too frequently an illegible maze of hallways and rooms. It's hard to find one's way around, and you may even feel lost in the building, increasing stress, detracting from wellness and patients' healing.

Envision Architects created a model to alleviate this phenomenon that greatly improves how patients move through the facility. For our clients at The Children's Specialty Hospital, we've designed "neighborhoods" or clusters of program sectors in order to centralize and organize the activity through a complex building. This allows us to create an environment where people can confidently move through space, enjoying various architectural and interior design features, materials, views and graphics, while visiting patients, performing diagnostic tests, or working with other staff members on patient care activities. 

It is important to our team to continue creating memorable legible places that support healing and the occupant experience. Our innovative healthcare designs have been recognized by industry leaders as well as our peers in architecture for their clarity in wayfinding and fun, memorable designs.

Staff Profile: Insights from Alper Bozlak

Alper Bozlak is an Associate and Interior Designer on our Envision team. As we highlight the firm's work, we also like to share insights from our team, including their motivators and process as designers. from Alper, on designing for healthcare clients:

"I’ve had broad experiences across different projects, but healthcare projects can have the most rewarding process with a profound impact on those who use the spaces that are built. One of the most important aspects of healthcare design is creating a space that is conducive to healing. This means incorporating elements like sustainable design, adequate lighting, and effective acoustics. As designers, we have the tools for achieving great design solutions, but it’s the process of thoughtful discussions that lead our work for the success of our clients and the health of the patients.

My focus every day is on who are the end users within the space? What are the users trying to accomplish here? There are spatial and end user relationships that can’t be separated or isolated in a highly collaborative work environment. It’s only after we meet at length with doctors, nurses and advocates of the patients that we can design for functionality, flow and a multitude of ways to connect spaces together. I feel most successful when I truly understand how people use the space and the architectural designs where I can enable great healing environments to occur with dignity and integrity."

What’s it like being back in the office? Have a look! We’re back and at it - collaborating in-person and sharing space. Full pandemic WFH is finally behind us, but the remote working abilities we have honed over the past 2 years continue to keep the team strong and focused when we need flexibility, from the road and within our new hybrid schedule.

It’s energizing to see one of our projects getting national attention and support from the highest levels of government. We are so grateful to be part of this team with .49 on a transformative project that is addressing climate change and providing hundreds of new jobs in our hometown.
