As America 250-Ohio celebrates our Semiquincentennial we want to celebrate our small part of history and our growth as a county.

The Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail stretches across Northeast Ohio—but right here in Tuscarawas County, history and progress come together in a powerful way.

This trail follows the path of the original Ohio & Erie Canal, where mules once pulled boats carrying goods that helped build our nation’s economy in the 1800s. Today, that same route has been transformed into a scenic trail for walking, biking, and exploring our heritage. 

📍 And here’s what makes Tuscarawas County so special:

• We are the southern anchor of this historic trail system, with plans connecting all the way to New Philadelphia
• Local communities like Dover, Zoarville, and New Philadelphia are helping shape its future
• Millions of dollars in funding are being invested right here to expand and complete the trail
• New sections along the Tuscarawas River are opening, creating opportunities for recreation, tourism, and economic growth 

From the historic canal locks near Zoar to the expanding trail systems throughout the county, Tuscarawas County isn’t just part of the story—we’re helping finish it.

When complete, this 100+ mile trail will connect communities from Cleveland to Tuscarawas County, making our region a destination for visitors from across Ohio and beyond.
