We have just concluded Day 4 of the Intuitive Foundation funded COSECSA-UGHE Surgical Research Methods Workshop in Kigali and the energy in the room remains high as we continue to celebrate Global Surgery Week.
Today's sessions focused largely on linear regression analysis, breaking down the components of a research proposal, and a very important discussion on ethical considerations in research — a reminder that good science is not just about the methods but also about responsibility to our patients and study participants.

In the afternoon, four participants then presented their proposals to the panel and got constructive feedback,

4 down, one more to go, excited to wrap up such an impactful workshop tomorrow!

In recognition of the Global Surgery day, 25th May 2026, COSECSA officially kicked off the Surgical Research Methods Workshop in Kigali, in Collaboration with the University of Global Health Equity, expected to run through May 29th. This program, under the funding of Intuitive Foundation, aims at imparting global surgery research skills to early career surgical researchers.

Day one was a success. Participants worked through various study designs (cross-sectional, case-control designs, cohort studies, implementation science and randomized) as well as sampling techniques and sample size determination. A full day well spent.

More to come over the next few days. Watch this space.
