Tonga Rugby Union is proud to announce the appointment of David Lavulo Edwards to the Tonga Rugby Union Board.

David is a former Tonga national rugby representative who played 14 Test matches for Tonga between 1997 and 2002, including representing the Kingdom at the 1999 Rugby World Cup. His strong connection to rugby, combined with extensive professional experience in governance and business leadership, brings significant value to the Board.

Professionally, David has held senior leadership and governance roles across both Tonga and New Zealand, including serving as Chair and Director of several government SOEs, trusts, and sporting organisations. His background spans strategic planning, financial management, organisational transformation, stakeholder engagement, and regulatory compliance.

David has also contributed widely to sport and community development through trustee and advisory roles, while maintaining a strong commitment to the growth and sustainability of rugby in Tonga.

Speaking on his appointment, David expressed his desire to support the strengthening of Tonga Rugby Union’s governance, strategic direction, high-performance pathways, and community rugby initiatives.

Tonga Rugby Union welcomes David to the Board and looks forward to the experience, leadership, and passion he will bring in helping shape the future of rugby in Tonga.
