Durante loron haat, ami nia ekipa fasilita partisipante sira kona ba uza no maneja dadus geospatial liu husi utiliza software sira 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗮𝗻 𝗤𝗚𝗜𝗦 𝗵𝗼𝗱𝗶 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗷𝗮 𝗱𝗮𝗱𝘂𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗮 𝗱𝗮𝗱𝘂𝘀 𝗻𝗼 𝗸𝗿𝗶𝗮 𝗺𝗮𝗽𝗮 𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗸𝘂 ida ne’ebe diak. G-SIG is proud to collaborate with the 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵, received support from the Asia Pacific Malaria Elimination Network (APMEN) and the 𝗠𝗮𝗵𝗶𝗱𝗼𝗹 𝗢𝘅𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁 (𝗠𝗢𝗥𝗨) to facilitate a one-week training in Dili on the use of 𝗴𝗲𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗚𝗜𝗦 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 for staff from the Ministry of Health.

During the four-day training, our team facilitated participants in using and managing geospatial data through software such as QGIS to process and analyze data and to create thematic maps. In addition, we also guided participants in practical exercises on collecting geographic information using GNSS mobile applications, importing the data into QGIS, and conducting statistical and geospatial analysis.

At the end of the training, participants developed GIS-based thematic maps using health-related information and analyzed disease distribution patterns through well-designed thematic mapping. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to 𝗔𝗣𝗠𝗘𝗡 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗢𝗥𝗨 for their trust and support in this initiative.

On 11–12 June 2026, G-SIG conducted participatory mapping and officially installed QR Codes in collaboration with local authorities and communities in 𝗠𝗼𝘁𝗮𝗲𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗹𝗲𝘂𝗮𝗻𝗮, 𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝟭𝟬𝟬 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱𝘀 (𝟰𝟬 𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝘁𝗮𝗲𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝟲𝟬 𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗹𝗲𝘂𝗮𝗻𝗮). The activity engaged Aldeia Chiefs, community delegates, and local residents👥.

Together, participants identified disaster-prone areas, including locations vulnerable to flooding and waste-related hazards, while also mapping critical infrastructure and households at risk. Following the mapping exercise, 𝗤𝗥 𝗖𝗼𝗱𝗲𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗵𝗶𝗱𝗶 platform were installed at selected locations and households.

📲The QR Codes enable community members to quickly report incidents by submitting photos, videos, or written descriptions directly to the Ushahidi system. This digital reporting mechanism helps ensure that information reaches Village Chiefs and relevant authorities promptly, allowing for faster response and informed decision-making.

Supported by UNDP Timor-Leste, this initiative strengthens community resilience, improves waste and disaster management, and promotes the use of digital technology to enhance local early warning and emergency reporting systems🚨.

On 3 and 5 June 2026, the 𝐆-𝐒𝐈𝐆 team successfully facilitated natural disaster simulation exercises and officially established the School Disaster Preparedness Team (𝐄𝐏𝐃) at 𝐄𝐁𝐂 𝐀𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐧𝐨 and𝐄𝐁𝐅 𝐌𝐨𝐭𝐚 𝐊𝐢’𝐢𝐤 Hera.

The activity began with a review session with students on the training they had previously received regarding natural disasters and the concepts of 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥-𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐑𝐢𝐬𝐤 𝐑𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 (𝐒𝐁𝐃𝐑𝐑), aimed at reinforcing the knowledge and skills they had already acquired. This was followed by a First Aid session facilitated by Mr. 𝐀𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐨 𝐝𝐚 𝐂𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐚. During the session, students were introduced to first aid kit (P3K) equipment and learned how to provide assistance and support to classmates who may become weak, injured, or unconscious during emergency situations. Following the session, the 𝐆-𝐒𝐈𝐆 team and students conducted a natural disaster simulation exercise to directly apply the knowledge and skills they had learned.

During the simulation, students practiced how to respond appropriately and safely when a natural disaster occurs. Through this exercise, students gained a better understanding of how to follow evacuation route signs that had been established, gather at designated evacuation assembly points, support one another during emergency situations, and understand the roles and responsibilities of the School Disaster Preparedness Team (𝐄𝐏𝐃).

Following the simulation, the 𝐆-𝐒𝐈𝐆 team, together with teachers from the respective schools, officially established the School Disaster Preparedness Team (𝐃𝐏𝐓). The team also handed over several items to the teachers and EPD members, including 𝐒𝐁𝐃𝐑𝐑 modules, EPD Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), a loudspeaker (megaphone), and First Aid Kits (P3K), to support the EPD in carrying out its functions and responsibilities during disaster events.

During his remarks, the Director of 𝐄𝐁𝐂 𝐀𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐧𝐨 Mr. 𝘔𝘢𝘯𝘶𝘦𝘭 𝘚𝘰𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘴 stated “We sincerely thank Plan International Timor-Leste and G-SIG for facilitating these trainings and guiding our students on how to prepare for disasters. We also encourage our students to share and spread the knowledge they have gained with their friends and especially within their communities.”

This program was implemented with the support of Plan International Timor-Leste to strengthen resilience in schools through School-Based Disaster Risk Reduction (SBDRR). Through these efforts, schools can become safer, better prepared, and more resilient in facing natural hazards and disaster risks.

As part of the School-Based Disaster Risk Reduction program supported by Plan International Timor-Leste, on 25 May 2026, the 𝐆-𝐒𝐈𝐆 team together with teachers from 𝐄𝐁𝐂 𝐀𝐤𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐧𝐨 and 𝐄𝐁𝐅 𝐌𝐨𝐭𝐚 𝐤𝐢´𝐢𝐤 established disaster risk maps and evacuation signs at both schools.

With the establishment of this disaster risk map, students and teachers can identify areas that are at high risk and areas that are at low risk of disasters. The evacuation signs installed along the evacuation route will serve as an important guide to help students safely follow the path to the designated evacuation point.

This activity is very important to strengthen resilience in schools through school-based disaster risk reduction. In this way, schools can become a place that is safe, prepared, and resilient against natural disaster risks.
